You can make the visit easier before you arrive. Come when your child is rested and has eaten, since a tired or hungry kid struggles to sit still for anything. Keep your own tone easy; kids pick up a parent’s nerves faster than anything a barber says. If your kid has had a rough haircut before, tell Joni at the start so she knows going in.

Kids notice what the older kids at school are wearing, and they can ask for the same here: a fade, a taper, a clean neckline, or a number 2 on the sides with some length left on top. Joni cuts fades and tapers for her adult clients, and the same work carries over to a smaller head with some adjustment. A child’s head leaves less room between the ears and the crown to blend, and the skin near the ears and neck is often more sensitive, so that part of the cut takes more care.
Before any cutting, Joni talks it through with you and your kid. A photo on your phone is useful, even one your kid picked. She will look at it next to your child’s hair and tell you straight what will hold. A cowlick at the hairline or a crown that swirls can change where the length needs to sit, and she will say so up front.

How Long Does It Take, and How Often Should They Come Back?
Joni holds 45 minutes for each kids cut. Short styles usually need a trim every three to four weeks to stay neat; cuts with more length can go a little longer.
My Kid Is 11 or Older. What Do They Book?
A regular haircut. The kids cut covers 10 and under, and older kids book the GQ Haircut from the adult menu.
